If you’re looking to install a new boiler, it’s important that you find a company with experience and expertise. Here are some top tips on how to pick the most trusted company in your area:
Check if the company is registered with Gas Safe Register
Gas Safe Register is the official UK body that oversees the safe installation and maintenance of gas appliances. All engineers who work on gas boilers in the UK are required to be registered with Gas Safe Register. If an engineer working on your boiler isn’t registered, then it’s unsafe for them to do so. It will not only invalidate your warranty but also your house insurance should something go awry.
The Gas Safe Register does not charge for its services; it’s a free service provided by government-funded bodies such as Ofgem (Office of Gas & Electricity Markets) and Ofwat (Office of Water Services). There’s no reason for an installer not to be registered with them.
Check if the company has a good reputation
Before you decide on a company, it’s important to check its reputation and history of customer service.
Check online reviews. You can find a lot of information online about your chosen company by looking at their reviews, especially on sites like Google and Facebook. If there are lots of negative comments or any mention at all of poor workmanship or bad customer service, then this should be a red flag that you need to reconsider your choice of contractor.
Talk to friends and family members who have had work done by plumbers or heating engineers in the past; they may know someone who has used this particular firm before, so ask them what their experience was like with them as well as whether they would recommend using them again (or not).
Do they have a website? If the company you are thinking of using does not have a website, then this should be another red flag. A professional business will always have an online presence and will usually have social media accounts as well.
Look for testimonials from previous customers online
The best way to find out what a company is really like is to read the reviews of their previous customers. You can do this by searching for them online or by looking at the testimonials section on their website.
Online reviews on websites like Trustpilot or Checkatrade are a great place to find out about a company before deciding if you would like to use their services – these sites allow customers who’ve used their services before to write reviews about them so potential customers can read what other people think about them before making their decision.
If you find that they don’t have an online presence at all and you’re not sure who they are or whether they’re trustworthy, look elsewhere.
Not all plumbers are heating engineers
You need to make sure that you are hiring a heating engineer, not just a general plumber. This is because not all plumbers are qualified to work on boilers and heating systems.
A good way to find out if they are qualified is by asking whether they have gas-safe registration. If the person claims that they do, but doesn’t have any proof of this (such as an ID card), then it’s best not to trust them with your home or business.
Ask about the warranty offered
The length of a boiler’s warranty is one way to determine its quality. A longer warranty means your new boiler will last longer and require fewer repairs, so it’s worth asking about the length of any warranties offered by installers you’re considering.
A good rule of thumb is that if they are not accredited by the manufacturer, their warranty won’t be as long as those offered by accredited installers.
