Let’s face it, heating and hot water are things we can’t live without. But it’s the coldest days of winter that really test your boiler.
When there are no more leaves on the trees and you’re snuggled up with a blanket indoors, your boiler breaking is the last thing you want to happen, which is why you should consider getting your boiler serviced or replaced when you’re least likely to be thinking about keeping warm.
Do it while it’s hot outside
If your boiler is over 10 years old, it might be time to consider an upgrade. Newer boilers are more efficient, meaning they use less energy and therefore will likely cost less when winter draws in – and every penny counts at the moment given the continual energy price hikes!
The best time of year to get a new boiler fitted is when you’re relying on it the least, therefore late spring and summer are most ideal. Most people have their heating off in summer, meaning it will cause the least disruption having a new boiler installed during this time.
During summer, you will also find it easier to book an engineer at a time most convenient for you. In winter, a lot of engineers’ time can be spent responding to emergency call-outs where boilers have failed and homes have been left without heating and hot water while it’s freezing outside – don’t let that be you!
You might also get better deals!
Where boiler companies are generally much quieter in spring and summer, they may offer deals to entice customers during the summer months, such as discounts on the overall price, or free add-ons such as a smart thermostat. We know forward planning can often save money on big purchases, but this is even more relevant when purchasing a new boiler.
If you need to get a boiler fitted it’s best to think about it now – don’t leave it until it’s too late! If you wait until the weather begins to turn cold, then you could end up with a broken boiler at the worst possible time.
